The old shed porch roof was falling off the building and poorly constructed. It was removed and a new screened porch was constructed. A full frost wall foundation provided the permanent footing for the structure. The existing sliding doors were replaced with a set of French doors that allow for the porch to open up to the kitchen through a six foot wide opening. The project also included a covered shed porch area for entry into the mud room. That was built on full frost walls, and a concrete slab floor capped with blue stone. The floor of the screened porch is concrete pavers set in sand and drains any rain or snow melt.
The porch is trimmed in Kleer PVC Trim that will never need any maintenance or painting. The screens were custom built for the large openings and are removable for the fall and winter months. Speakers connected to the home’s sound system and a ceiling fan were installed in the bead board ceiling.
A driveway circle was added and included two additional parking spaces. After layout, 16 inches of material was removed and a base of 12 inches of bank run gravel was laid down and then topped with 4 inches of ¾” crushed slate. Finally, starting from the high ground on the far back corner of the barn, foundation perimeter drains were installed all the way to the road to solve wate infliltration into the barn and basement.
